Some people may think that expert database programmers just sprout from the ground, while the rest of us left to try, feel our way through the complexities of Visual Basic and Standard Query Language (SQL). But many of you maybe shocked that these experts began much to be like you and me. The difference? They found a way to go from confusion to understanding. I know you are thinking to yourself: “Well, that’s easy to say, but how can I one of those people?” With a few tricks, some tinkering, and a little effort, you will get one step closer to your goal. The first thing is to understand that MS Access has been created, which are used by large businesses and individuals. In other words, it can be as complex or as simple as the user wants. This allows the program to grow as the complexity of your knowledge and skills increase. The first step on the path to the Access expert is the understanding that it will take some time to get comfortable with the program. It is therefore of crucial importance is to stay calm and not frustrated. Learning is extremely difficult when we are frustrated or tense, so let’s dismiss that out of the picture immediately. Once you are no longer frustrated, we can begin our lesson. One of the great advantages of MS Access is the help function. Because access was intended for people that give developers an extensive help base included with the software. To neglect the use of this function would be unwise. The next big thing about MS Access is that it offers online help if you can not find what you are looking in the included help file. This should be after any of the included help system can be used. If no work to help the two functions, I would suggest would enter into a popular search engine such as Google and a quick question, what do you want to achieve (eg “How to create MS Access queries in VB). This has saved me out of trouble many times when I tried to do something very specific and could not find the answer either mentioned in the help file. The next bit of advice I can give you is this: Do you play around no fear. Most of my knowledge of database programming came from sitting at the computer screen during my free time. Trust me, it is time well invested. Not only will it help you solve your problem, but you will be familiar to get with the program and its possibilities. As a last advice, I urge you to spend time every day, “tinker” with the program. Even if it’s only for 10-15 minutes, pay off the constant exposure is long term. I think that goes to the help function and the search for an article related to something I’m interested in learning how to do helps me tremendously. With a little practice and a little time, you are undoubtedly very efficiently with your database programming.
